I have dual ASUS GTX 970 STRIX. I've had them since about when they first came out and they've been great up until now.

When I try to game my system crashes to black and restarts it's self. Not even a blue screen. It seems to have something to do with rendering. Game menus are typically fine but as soon as the cards have to render any 3D models it crashes.

When I turn SLI off and just use a single card it runs fine. I've reinstalled the driver and it worked for the remainder of that day but the next day it was back to crashing.

I'm going to switch the positions of the cards and see if that does anything. Maybe there's something wrong with my second card. Or could it be my motherboard? Something to do with the PCI Express slots? I know I already have one dead slot.

Any ideas or help would be great.

Check the clock speed of both cards and put them both back down to normal clock speed check none of them are thermal throttling. Have you installed the latest drivers?

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

this are generally GPU,mobo and PSU related

what is your mobo and PSU models?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I have a Seasonic X-850 Gold and an Asus Maximus V Extreme and like i said i know i already have a dead pci express slot so that's what i'm leaning towards. 850 watts is more than enough for my setup but the PSU is 3 or so years old now. could that have anything to do with it?

And sorry for the late reply

No issues mate. Test your system with just one gpu and do the usual render test. If possible borrow a spare psu from a buddy and then test with all gpu plugged in. Also your board has a dip switch to turn of the gpu slots. Turn off the faulty slot. Prepare for mobo and psu rma.

Thanks a lot. i'll give that a try. i'll also try swapping the positions of the GPUs to make sure it's not my second card that's bad.
