the 285 is pretty much equal and last I checked the 280x was cheaper than the 960

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

The two cards trade blows in gaming performance. Can't go wrong with either card. If going AMD and you don't need the features the 285 has you should also consider the R9 280 which is more powerful and usually costs the same if not less than the 285.

Go with the cheaper card. The 285 uses the new GCN 1.2 architecture and comes along with a few new features which you likely won't need or are more for show than anything else like bridgeless crossfire...

It has 2GB VRAM compared to the 280 which has 3GB and holds well right now, usually edging out the R9 280 marginally in most games at 1080p. In more demanding games the lower amount of VRAM and bandwidth can result in slightly worse performance compared to the 280.

Go with the 960 between those two. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_960_gaming_oc_review,17.html

That's just one game. Look at the other games they benchmark and you can see they trade blows.

It always depends on the games and oc of the card of course.  I just posted the link. I was not saying to base it off that one game.

Take with it what you will. The results are so one side or the other between those two it is really down to personal preference. However, that doesn't satisfy people sometimes, so my outlook on it is this: if you will go into a good OC, then get the 960. An OC'd 960 will beat an OC'd R9 285 by a good amount of frames. If, though, you don't believe and overclocking, then go for the 285. The raw performance will be more prevalent there.

CPU: G3258 @ 4GHz GPU: Gigabyte GTX 960 OC RAM: 8GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 SSD: Corsair LS 120GB Case: Antec GX500 Mouse: Logitech G402 Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Headphones: Shure SRH440 Microphone: That Zalman Zm-Mic1 that everyone recommends but noone uses

Remember when the R9 280 was the HD 7950? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Well thats weird, where I live the price is pretty much the same. Anyways, what about the r9 280? Thing is that it has 3gb vram instead of 2. I don't even know what the point of the 285 is tbh

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

No problem this is what happens when people don't post location and budget.

R9 280. Not the 280x.

If those are your only options and price is the same, might as well go with the 960 since it is more feature rich and is also a good overclocker. Shadowplay and PhysX are two big features you can't get with the 285.
