No. Why would it? Think about it as 3,5gb with an additional 500mb that are STILL faster then your ram would have been.

All the 970 Benchmarks did not suddenly drop frames (no pun,...) just because this "issue" got brought up. 970s destroy 1080p, no matter how you look at it.

not if you're gaming at 1080 or 1440P (wich i am with also a gtx 970) there shouldn't be a problem

it is only an issue if you go over 3.5GB used, which won't happen at 1080p and usually not at 1440p, so only 4k is usually a problem.

If you are aiming for 4k a 970 is not exactly the best option anyways. Even if it had 8gb it would still be a bad option :-)

Bottom line: Ignore that "issue", there is no "issue" at all. The card does what it is supposed to do and it does it better then any other card for the money. If you want 4k you should consider 980(s) tho, but not for the vram, but for the 15% more power.

I love my 970. I've gotten the VRAM to 3300mb in GTA V and that's as high as it has ever gone in anything. Nvidia could have made the 970 with 3.5(technically 4) gb of vram or 3gb and they chose to give people more instead of forcing you to buy the 980 for more than 3gb VRAM

Depends on the game and the settings. I know Shadow of Mordor with HD texture pack and max settings has some serious stutering becuase it goes past 3.5GBs of vram. Not that many games use 3.5Gbs of vram at 1080p and 1440p.

That game's textures are also rated at 6gb, not 4, so it will hit 980s too, just not as bad because they can cache sliiiiightly more textures at full speed.

That's why I'm going with the Titan X because its overkill lol.

Work blocked it :(. I will watch it tonight. I just watched a Jayztwocents video about 970 3.5Gbs.

No, it was way blown out of proportion.

this. most of the people that were complaining about it were people that didn't have a 970. there were some 970 owners that had very legitimate complaints but for 1080 and 1440 (mostly) it is a great card. and those are the resolutions this card is targeting

And i dont really believe that gtx 970 starts to die at 4k res. Here is a video of gtx 970sli playing unity at 4k resolution with all 4gb vram in use. I dont see any shutters or major fps drops. Actually is freaking amazingly stable.
