Computer wont post

Go to solution Solved by G33k 4 L1F3,

i cant find anything online should i look for the pins ?

also previously i havent taken the battery out for any longer then 5mins would that be enough time or should i leave it out for longer?

The battery method will not work if you have jumpers. I would just look for either 2 pins that are not labeled (they wouldnt have a fan mount for the pins) and just bridge the connection. If it has a bridge on it already, then take it off, boot up, then replace and boot again.

After overclocking my cpu (i7 920) by an extra 300mhz on top of my previous overclock, my computer failed to boot.I am aware i should have been more precocious and not jumped straight to an extra 300mhz. After i found my computer would show signs of life such as spinning fans and LEDs on the motherboard there was no beeping or anything bieng displayed it would also loop turning off and back on for about 10 seconds. I assumed i fried the cpu although annoying i7 920s are relatively old and very cheap so i bought a new one after installing it the computer displayed the same behavior although it would not turn off after 10 seconds or so but it still did not display anything i tried multiple displays but still nothing i also swapped out the PSU and i heard some beeping but it still would not display i also swapped out the RAM as well but this did nothing. Is it likely i fried the motherboard or have i missed something out is there anything anyone can suggest? although i am thinking of upgrading to a new mobo and cpu anyway, but right now dosent seem a very good time to buy as there are no new processors until skylake and i haven't been able to find any deals any suggestions?

Pull the battery out of the mobo the thing that looks like a coin and put it back in then reboot.

sometimes a motherboard does not rely on the CMOS to hold its settings. Consult your motherboards manual to see if there are a set of 2 pins you can bridge with a metal flat head screwdriver, or something metal, to clear the bios. This Jumper is where your bios can be reset.

Do that, because this can help reset the BIOS. And even after that, you cannot get into BIOS, then there is an issue with your CPU. I have never been able to not get into BIOS after a failed overclock, and I'm using the Pentium G3258, it failed OC at 4.1GHz, but I was still able to boot into BIOS to clock down the speed to 3.9Ghz, where it stays right now. let me know how things work out.

The battery method will not work if you have jumpers. I would just look for either 2 pins that are not labeled (they wouldnt have a fan mount for the pins) and just bridge the connection. If it has a bridge on it already, then take it off, boot up, then replace and boot again.
