New Build (first build) - 500$

CosminV95

My current PC is nearly 5 years old (I know O.o) so this/next month I'll finally get the cash together for my own first PC build.

Note: I don't need peripherals, I'll use it for gaming (1440x900 res), as far as silence goes it shouldn't be very loud though this is not a priority, I also have an OS and I don't do OC.

Budget is very limited bare in mind (500 US $), so here is what I thought of:

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-78LMT USB3

CPU: FX-6300 (Stock cooler, no OC)

GPU: ASUS HD 7770GHz Edition DirectCU 1GB

RAM: 2X4 GB Corsair XMS3 @1333MHz

HDD: 500GB WD Cavair Blue

Case: NZXT Source 220

PSU: Corsair CX 600M

Pretty simple, eh?

Looks good. You can get away with cheaper PSU thou, you don't need 600W for that build. Around 450 with a good brand will be plenty except if you are getting a great deal on bigger capacities. You won't need it except if you want to transfer it in the future for new builds or possibly upgrade to a better GPU. A CX 430 will do the job if you are wondering :D

I know but the manufacturer of the GPU recommends 500W and I thought that I might as well get a bigger one now, then use it whenever I'll upgrade/build a new PC again.

If that's the way you look at things, yes. You can do it but it heavily depends on what kind of machine you will build in the future because that PSU may be not enough in the future build. If you are looking for the recommended spec: my 7770 runs from that PSU and it's even OC with the phenom 965 soo it will be handled. If you don't mind spending the extra $ now, get a bigger one :) the bigger the merrier.

My plan is that in about 3 or so years form now I'll upgrade or make a new build but I would go for something like a 750$ build. Kind of like what I have right now but with a GTX 760 and i5 4670K if you want to think of it that way. If a CX600W can take that right now, then I figure it can take something of the same level 3 years from now.

Yes i think it can carry them parts. Good plans, stick with that build (you can also transfer the RAM, the HDD and the case, optical drive will be even more useless then). Consider an SSD at some point as well. Trust me, new builds don't feel that new with the same 'ol HDD in them. Let me give you an example: My build is AMD 965 with a 7770 with an 840 pro (cuz overkill, that's why) the OS is 1-2 years old. My friend bought a 4670K today with a HD7950 and a Black WD drive and he invited me to install his OS. My PC feels 10 times faster than his while in reality it should be the other way around.

Very interesting. This is just something I've heard on a forum somewhere that on low res displays such as mine (1440x900) the CPU is being very stressed and therefore it becomes equally as important as the GPU. Now your build looks absolutely incredible in a 500$ budget (XFX 7870 O.o) and the only things I'd change are maybe the RAM to dual-channel and the mobo to one that has USB 3.0 and Sata III but again... that CPU thing...

The thing is, I'm pretty sure the OP isn't anywhere near a Microcenter.

Nice, couple of things:

Is dual-channel RAM that big of a deal? I always try to go with that whenever I make a wishlist that's why I'm asking, while I see many people choose just one module.

430W is enough for a FX-6300 and 7850 combo?

A cx430 is enough to run a 7870. The 7850 is a breeze.

Dual channel ram can give up to 50% performance increase from single channel on memory benchmarks and up to 10% in a few real usage circumstances. Considering the OP's budget, it's probably better to just save the money and go with the cheaper ram.

Ok, makes sense. Kind of in between your choice and nightlitezzz's one which I managed to put together one the website of a retailer from my country and it comes in at just under 550$ so... I guess maybe wait some (more) time?

What do you have so far? If you need a good screenshot app, gyazo is great: http://gyazo.com/

What do you mean...? I said that I just put together nightlitezzz's suggestion (the one with the 7870 form a few posts above) on a website from my country. But the thing is, that config costs nearly 550$ in Romania so... I'm asking if I should wait maybe an extra month and buy it.

You said, you put together a list. Show us the list to see if we can't make it fit in your budget with a few tweaks.

Here you go: http://www.pcgarage.ro/

Remember, the budget is 2500 RON. Also it is in Romanian so you might need Google Chrome for that.
