Okay guys I'll give my best to desribe my problem;

I've recently bought a new motherboard, Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P,  and a new CPU, AMD  FX6300. So a friend came by to help  me assemble it, as I didn't have any previous experience with it. After having some trouble mounting a non-stock cooler to the cpu, and mounting the back plate for the motherboard, I had to  be somewhere else, and left the thing undone. I remember that we pulled out a tiny screw (for which I now know is a motherboard standoff), because we had trouble fitting the back plate and the motherboard itself, not managing to line up the screw holes. So after a couple of hours, I figured that the plate was kinda bent, and managed to fit the motherboard into the case, wired up everything, booted etc... The pc is working fine, except one thing. When I use my Corsair Vengeance 2100 wireless headset, and charge it at the same time, I can hear  a buzzing sound when i tilt down (turn on) the microphone, and the people that I'm talking to can hear it also. The buzzing goes almost completely quiet when i touch the case with my foot, or when I touch my metal keyboard. The buzzing gets louder when I touch the mic. This had never happened to me before, with my old motherboard. I'm afraid that if I tinker with it on my own now, I might fry out my mb (by  putting the standoff  back in place), given the fact that everything (except the thing with the headset) is working like a charm.

So I guess my questions are:

1. If my  pc has been working normally for some time now (almost a month now), with the standoff taken out, is it safe to presume I don't need it?

2. Is the buzzing of the headset when charging related to the standoff/new motherboard, or is it just a coincidence that it started doing that when I got the new mb?

I've read some threads online about the issue with the vengeance 2100 headset, and other people seem to experience the same issue, but I find it odd that it started happening to me recently, and I've had the headset since last summer.

Also,  my  pc case is Bitfenix Merc Alpha, if that helps in any way.

Thanks in advance :)

p.s. I used the same power cable, the same extension cord, and the same outlets (both in the extension cord and in the wall), as I did with my previous mb/cpu. When I touch  the case I don't feel any tingling/electricity.

most likely ground issues

you might need to redo the mounting of the mobo

if not also check the power connectors

as the onboard audio draws power from the 5 volt source

Ok, so I opened up my case, and took a closer look. The mb is standing on 9 raised 'platforms', where the screws are screwed in, so there is definitely no contact elsewhere with the case. Also, I found out that I only put 4/9 screws in. I screwed 1 more screw in, as I happen to have only one more of the same kind. I checked all the connections to the mb/hdd/gpu etc. But the buzzing persists.

Also, you said that the onboard audio draws power from the 5v source, but my headphones are wireless. The only connection they make is via the usb charging cable.

I also saw that there are contacts/soldering patterns on the mb on the parts that the screws cover when screwed in. Is there any difference in grounding quality if not all screws are in place?

yea they do affect the ground ability of the mobo

but now that you mentioned your headphone are wireless and they emit a buzzing sound

can you swap the dongle to another USB port?

Sounds like electrical noise to me, and when you touch the case of your PC, you're pulling all that noise down to ground, so the buzzing gets quieter.

Are you in an environment with a lot of wireless activity/noise?

It could be caused by your PC as well but there's not a lot you can do about it.

When your PC runs it will create noise which could be affecting the signal(s) to your headphones.

I have the same issue on mine and I'm yet to find a solution other than using a sound card rather than on board audio.

This works because the sound card is more isolated from the noise (separate PCB) than the on board audio.

Put in the rest of the 4/9 things for the motherboard

Yup, done that but the problem persists.

I don't think that the dongle is the problem, when I use the headset and I'm not charging (so the only connection to the pc is wireless), I can use the mic without the buzzing happening. It's only a problem while I'm charging and using the mic at the same time.

Put in the rest of the 4/9 things for the motherboard

Yeah that was my original idea, but it seems  that I don't have all the needed screws. Before this motherboard, I had an m-atx mobo, which had only 6 screws, and because I bought a pre-built pc, I didn't get the rest of the screws that came with the case. I managed to find one more yesterday,  so I now have 5/9 screws in place. I also saw that one of the holes in the case, beneath a hole in the mobo is too low, and I can't fit the screw in, it's too short (it's the same screw as the others).

I also tried the headset on a laptop, and I can hear the buzzing. I know that that most probably means that the fault is in the headset, not the mobo, but as I said previously, this kind of a problem never occured to me on my previous mobo.

I would conclude that the lack of  a standoff isn't doing any harm now in this case, and that the only problem now is the lack of screws/faulty headset?

Thanks to everyone that replied, I would love to hear someone else's opinion on my problem, as I would be happy if I solved it :)
