Thinkpad X230, or if you don't mind the wait, X240 (it should trickle out in a month). X240 should be updated for Haswell.

 

The X230 can be configured with up to 20 hours of battery life for little under $1100, leaving another 100-200 for an SSD upgrade (which you can do yourself). The total with SSD and 9-cell battery alone (12-13 hours of battery life) will be about $1100-1200.

 

Would suck balls for gaming, but if you're not interested in gaming, it's a good option.

This laptop is pretty sweet. A tad heavier but the extra weight is worth the performance :D

Yeah, I haven't had any first hand usage with it, but my older brother just bought one since he cant have a desktop in afghani-land, and he's told me it's super fast and can run most games maxed on ultra, if not a few settings on high
