So before I even start, I'd like to point out that I'm fully aware of the idiocy that caused my problem. I'm fully aware that I am the reason I have this problem.

Alrighty so I took my trusty laptop apart to clean out fans and intakes, I also changed my CPU's thermal paste to Article Silver Ceramique 2. Everything was going great, I put it all back together and started it up with no problems. Then I released that the keyboards ribbon cable wasn't plugged in, so I took it back apart to reconnect it. At this point I was tired, had been working at this since 11pm and it was around 1am and I was becoming impatient. I forgot to pop the battery out when I was fixing the cable and while loosening a screw with a steel tool, I got a slight electric arc on the motherboard. I immediately took the battery out and let the computer sit for a minute. I took the ram out and reset it in the system, then I finished with the keyboard which I wasn't able to connect due to a broken clasp. After all this I had it all back together, put the battery it, plugged in the charger and the battery light came on however the computer will not power on. I'm not sure if the board is fried, the battery was barely charged when the arc occurred, if anybody could tell me how to find out if the board is indeed fried without me having to take it to a shop I'd greatly appreciate the help.

Good Day Sir!

this is actually quite surprising an arch occurred with the battery connected but it not on. I can help you solve not being able to connect the ribbon cable, but that's if you get it working again. Can you take a picture of where the arch occurred, like whole area around it and point out which screw it was? Both sides of the board

Gonna be honest, may not be much you can do. I'm in a similar situation atm funny enough, I need to replace a MB on a laptop I was gonna sell because a power surge at a friend's house killed it.

I know its not the DC Jack or Adapter because the adapter wasn't plugged in when the arc happened, and now when I plug it in the battery light comes on. This particular laptop has a light that comes on whenever the DC adapter is connected.

I found the HP page with all the parts however I cannot find this specific motherboard. Its the AMD A10-4600M+7660G APU. Its not listed on the webpage however. If you look up "HP Envy DV6 Series" an HP .PDF manual loads in the results, its about 130 pages long but the motherboards are on page 3 or 4. I can't find this board listed so I have no idea what the replacement cost is.

Good Day Sir!

Try this:

*EDIT* ignore the "Removing RTC from cavity" part, just disconnect the cable.

The RTC battery is the laptop's version of a CMOS battery on a full-size mobo. If you didn't fry the board with static doing a hard reset by disconnecting the RTC for 15-20 seconds, then reconnecting it, may bring it back to life.

For future reference unplugging the main battery as well as the RTC would be a good idea before you go touching anything on the board...and ground yourself with a strap.

Alright, so here's a quick rundown of the current situation: When I would connect my DC Adapter beforehand, I would just get the connection light and nothing would happen. I've disconnected and reconnected the RTC battery and now once the DC Adapter is connected I get a little boot up sound from the motherboard, my connection lights comes on and the fans turn on however it does this instantly even after disconnecting and reconnecting the adapter. Another weird thing is that it appears that either the CPU or GPU is functioning in some form because the air being vented out of the system is being heated up. The power button does not work, I haven't connected the battery yet so this is where I'm at now.

Good Day Sir!

I'd connect the battery, then the DC adapter, then attempt to fire it up.

So I stuck the battery pack in and now the little power light on the side of the system is one constantly. The actual system is off, to my knowledge, the fans are off, no sounds, no other lights etc. Once I plug in the DC Adapter in no longer enables the sound and fans however it just charge the battery. Not sure where else to go from here, I'll try to take the adapter and battery pack off and drain the charge, let you guys know what happens.

Alright so I just did that ^^ and nothing changes however the if there is any power source going into the system whether it be the battery or charger, the computer starts up in a vegetated state. The CPU runs, the fan runs, and the side power light comes on. I couldn't hear the fans before but they do turn on the second a power source connects.

Good Day Sir!
