I wanted to try american coffe so I went to a store and bought the cheapest machine I could find, a Philips HD7448, I came back home and realized that I need a filter... so... how do I know what's the right size?

Though now since here we don't make coffe like this, on Amazon.it there are only these two: VhQ2yOr.png?1

and a couple of paper ones, are these universal or every machine has its own? I really don't want to go back to the store.

That Phillips unit takes a size 4 filter, so those should be the proper size.

American coffee?

That sounds bad, You should try some Colombian coffee, that will knock your socks off.
