Static shocks from my case!

Go to solution Solved by BadTurtle,

My problem was in the socket, very strange though. But nevermind now everything is okay.

So today I decided to clean up the dust from my PC and removed the GPU and RAM only, nothing else, I got the stuff together, plugged all cables and suddenly I got a static shock from the case. I tested what devices cause this with mains tester and it seems like it only appears when the DVI, Power cable's are connected.

Sorry for the rush post, I just didn't know what to tell...Now I think it's very clear...I hope.

Oh.

I get a static shock from my PC case whenever I touch it, this happens when the DVI or power cable is connected to the PC.

I don't know if I can tell it more simple then this.

You have ground yourself before you touch the case? If not then do it. If it keeps occuring then try another DVI and Power cable and see if anything changes. If it carries on then i dont know what to do as its very unusual

I forgot to tell that when I touch the DVI cable (the steel on it) while it's connected to the monitor I still get a static shock(yeah i'm getting used to it..), so could it be the socket the problem ?
But it's ridiculously strange that this problem appeared today when I opened the case and cleaned the components...Everything is the same as it was before 5 years(just for the info).

Guys I found the problem but the solution still remains.

"You should not be touching the pins of Molex connectors or the metal parts of any connectors, that is how static will kill electronics; you hold things carefully by the edge and make sure you do discharge static by touching the metal of the case before any parts.

Yes, even when off the PSU capacitors retain power unless you unplug the PSU *and* turn on the power switch after unplugging to discharge remaining capacitor charge."

I touched the Molex connectors on the video card with my bare hand, which eventually gave it a static power. So my problem is now, how to discharge the static power out from it ?
