I have really slow internet about 512 kbps down and 256 kbps up

Does this affect latency (ping)

My ping when tested with ea servers by testing in command prompt is about 250

Is Internet speed and latency related?

Ping is simply the amount of time it takes to connect (or ping) the server. Speed is different.

The projects never end in my line of work.

But speed can affect it. I've played with people who were near the server location but had horrible internet and they would meet my ping while I'm half way across the country from them but with a great connection speed.

Only if all of your bandwidth is taken up

This as well.

What does the ping depend on?

Distance, how well maintained the connection is, any broken nodes, and sadly some companies being companies and limiting connections.

The projects never end in my line of work.

It's dsl what should be my expected ping?

It depends on more than just the connection type.

How far are you from your ISP?

I was 6 miles from ISP when I had DSL and ping was 35-40 on speedtest

But like @Prastupok said, it depends on more than that

So they are related?

Somewhat related but the most important thing to ping is bandwidth and distance from server.

When I play Chivalry and connect to a East US server I have a ping of 22 but when I connect to West US it's 100~ and to UK it's about 130.
