Will the R9 280 support DX12?

EcoBoost

Was just wondering. Are there specific GPU requirements to run DX12? Would my R9 280 work, or does it require one of the "new" AMD cards (285/290/295)?

It'll support DX12.

When reached by PCWorld, Nvidia officials said there was no change in their statements on GPUs that support DirectX 12. AMD officials also said nothing had changed. “All GCN-based graphics cards from AMD are going to support DirectX12,” an official told PCWorld.

It's a bit confusing.. AMD and Nvidia started out by saying the GTX 400's and all GCN-based AMD cards would support DirectX 12, but they've since refined that statement to "partial" support. Whatever that means, we'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Short answer to the question is yes, R9 280 supports DirectX 12, but how well it supports it is an open question still.
