Planning on spending $1.5k on FF setup tomorrow, need opinions please

If you want a FF camera for traveling then the Sony A7 (or A7 II) is your best bet. Like Dw136 explained, FF cameras are big and heavy which will take away from the enjoyment of being on vacation.

The problem with the A7 is that you will end up blowing your entire budget on the body and the kit lens... and none of your current lenses will fit without an adapter.

 

I don't recommend getting the Canon 5D. Like everyone else have said, it's just very old. It is almost 10 years old (released in late 2005). To put that into perspective, it is so old it was announced just a few months after Intel and AMD started selling DUAL core CPUs.
