CPU usage in game

Go to solution Solved by Darell3,

Do you think an upgrade to a i5-3470 might stop the bottle neck? http://ark.intel.com/products/68316/Intel-Core-i5-3470-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

It could yeah, the extra 2 cores will help good in games.

So I recently have have been witnessing low FPS on games that before never had low frames. I checked what was causing this and noticed that my CPU usage in game is always higher than the GPU. This is odd because I never have seen that happen to my computer... I tested other games that I know have never had that problem and now the CPU works harder than the GPU. This is causing some seriously low FPS and my CPU to get hotter than usual. I tried to re install nvdia's drivers and intel's drivers. I have also updated my BIOS, opened my PC cleaned it up (wasn't dirty to begin with) made sure the PSU is working properly (it is). This is stressing me out bad and I would really appreciate help.

Intel i3-2130

EVGA GTX 660 SC

8 GB RAM

500 W PSU

(This is the first time it happens in my 2 years with these specs)

Possible CPU is bottle-necking the GPU in some games?

Considering that's a Sandy Bridge chip I'm assuming this PC is a few years old? Try re-applying the thermal paste on the CPU to reduce the temperatures, you may find it dried out over the last few years. Won't fix the CPU load though...

Desktop:     Core i7-9700K @ 5.1GHz all-core = ASRock Z390 Taichi Ultimate = 16GB HyperX Predator DDR4 @ 3600MHz = Asus ROG Strix 3060ti (non LHR) = Samsung 970 EVO 500GB M.2 SSD = ASUS PG279Q

Notebook:  Clevo P651RG-G = Core i7 6820HK = 16GB HyperX Impact DDR4 2133MHz = GTX 980M = 1080p IPS G-Sync = Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 SSD + Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD
