[US] Amazon PNY USB 3.0 Flash Drive $31

Daegun

This flash drive has dropped back down to almost $30. Despite its cheap price, there's nothing wrong with it, I have one and have never had a problem.

Keep in mind though, shipping isn't free unless your order is over $35.

That looks like a good price, I should get a larger thumbdrive, my current one is not enough (16GB).

I have the 64GB variant of this.

I don't have a clue how you would fill up a 128GB flash drive. :/

Lots of videos. Lots of high quality, high res videos. I have one filled up and half of a second one :P

Other than that, I filled a 32gb one up really quick with stuff for school.

I think I've had so many usb drives die on me that I don't think of them as long-term storage.

Though, I can definitely see using them for school work. Mine's been a life saver for some classes.

Please explain, how can this be $31? If I get two, that's 256GB for only $70. While not a single 128GB SSD is under $90 or so? For better comparison, If I got four, that's only about $130, that's 512GB ,while not a single decent SSD over 500GB is less than $180? What is this?

Well, SSD's are a bit more complicated than a flash drive. :/

You are aware the write/read speeds are no where near the same, right?

Edit: In-fact, compared to an 840 EVO, these drives are 5 times slower on their sequential read/write.

I thought that was only because they're USB. The actual way they store files are almost the same, right?

I'm not well versed enough in storage architectures to answer that. But I'd assume they'd be different.

If I could possibly answer this from maybe a little bit of knowledge, I guess I could say a few things.

SSD will have vs. USB 3 thumb drives

-Multiple memory blocks to combine bandwidth (think like raid 0)

-Higher quality controllers and NAND to transfer and store data.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that from my understanding what makes it go vroom.

There are plenty of 120 gb SSDs for under $90. There are even 240 GB SSDs for under $100.

If I'm.correct, the flash is the same, but the controller is expontially cheaper.

Say the storage is a SUV, the ssd would have the big v8, the flash drive would be the same SUV with a Eco friendly 4 cylinder.

Okay... and they're old and slow and usually don't even work. Note the keyword in my post "decent." I suppose USB flash storage just isn't like an SSD, bottom line.

I didn't know the bx100 was old and slow :P

In all seriousness though, don't they use cheaper flash with less performance that degrades faster?

The 840 evo, most munshkin drives, the ocz arc are all good and fast drives for less then 120.
