Ok, say i want to use display port, will using a Displayport to DVI bottleneck the output of my GPU

Only if you're running 4K, or maybe 144Hz 1440p (not sure on that one). 

 

If you're going from DP to DVI, why not just use straight DVI, so you don't have to buy an adapter, especially if you're needing dual link.

Depends what resolution/Hz monitor you're running. In most cases no, it won't. But in the few select cases such has very high resolution and high Hz monitors it will become a problem.

Im running a Pavilion 20xi, I realize it's not top shelf and right now im using straight DVI

Is it worth getting the adapter or no?
