A representative from Cetrix, a company out of Malta, sent an email in yesterday talking up their tablet with a full version of Ubuntu 14.10 running on the device. The device is the Cetrix CZ974. This tablet is powered by an Intel Celeron 1037U SoC (Bay Trail) with 2GB of RAM, 16GB SSD, and microSD for expanded storage. The tablet is a 9.7-inch IPS display running at 2048 x 1536. There's a 1.3MP rear camera and 0.3MP front camera. The reported battery life on this tablet is about five hours.

Albeit maybe a bit difficult to manage with your finger I like the idea of full fledged Ubuntu on a tablet.

That could be pretty great! I'd like to see a more mobile friendly but fully capable OS on a tablet.

I'd guess there's not much support for mainstream apps and the likes though?

Thanks for sharing.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

Ubuntu Next (Touch) is what they were initially planning on shipping with this device although it's not mature enough for a ready product.

Oh, thats a shame. Still it'd be nice to see Ubuntu or just more linux systems breaking into the market.

The problem they are facing is they are building some sketchy looking devices to do it on. Below are some pictures of this supposed tablet. I'd rather see it done with like an HP Stream 8 rocking a x5-Z8500 or another. This thing is pretty thick and just looks like it was made back in 2009.

Hmm they do look rather "early century" alright.

That'd be awesome, maybe they'll do it eventually then!

Another problem I foresee is Microsoft. Intel and Microsoft have been working in tandem to flood the market with Windows and Intel based mobile devices. Intel is so focused on flooding the market with their product that they lost $4 billion last year in this segment. Pretty much buying their way into the mobile market. It's not a bad thing although most devices rocking an Intel chip will likely be rocking Windows or Android. I personally think full Ubuntu is cool on a tablet although I would take a Windows tablet over an Ubuntu one any day (so much more flexibility with Win32 support).
