So I've recently reconnected my modem and router into my apartment after moving some furniture around and when I logged into the wifi I noticed that the password was gone. I then went on linksys site (192.168.1.1) to set a password on it, when I saved the setting it made me reconnect to the wifi only this time there is no connection. I'm using my wifi right now without a password to make this post. If I'm not specific enough please feel free to ask me to provide more details.

Have you tried resetting it?

Yes, I have reset both router and modem. It works fine it's just there is no password. As soon as I make one and saved the settings the wifi isn't even shown up to connect to.

it might be hiding the SSID mate, or it could be that the router takes a while to apply the updates.

Change the settings (making sure SSID is set to visible) and reboot the router, allowing 5 minutes for it to do its magic (5 minutes is way too long, but just to be safe for troubleshooting purposes).

I have an option on the website that says  Wireless SSID Broadcast Enabled / Disabled, it's always been set to enabled but I'll try the rebooting of the router. Now should I reboot the modem as well? And by rebooting you mean unplugging all the cables and leaving it alone for 5 minutes or what? I'll try this option after you clarify the rebooting for me, thank you.

Leave that enabled.

No, rebooting is the router physically turning off and on (let this do it by itself in case of any updates happening you dont want to turn it off suddenly).

There should be a 'save' or 'reboot' option on the bottom of the page you change settings on.

Leave the modem, it's the routers issue.

When you set the password and it drops connections, is this just for wireless devices or for both wired and wireless?
