What is the best position for a harddrive to sit. because you can mount it on its  side or upside down as my case allows for all 3 options. im guessing flat upwards would be the best but idk. does it even matter

To my knowledge it doesn't matter, as long as there is not a lot of vibration that could possibly damage the hdd. My hard drive and SSD lay horizontal on its side in a hard drive bay and they have not faced any performance issues.

 junker build in the making

I prefer it flat facing upwards, but sideways does wear it out faster.  But "faster" in this case is unnoticeable for the most part cos other HDD components will probably fail before the bearing does.

QUOTE ME IN A REPLY SO I CAN SEE THE NOTIFICATION!

When there is no danger of failure there is no pleasure in success.
