The plan is to try and source a lot of it second hand, and upgrade over time

The psu is a bit overkill for 1 gpu.

You should be able to max out most games at 1920x1080p.

I am not sure how good that psu cooler is (since I know nearly nothing about coolers) but I suggest the coolermaster 212 evo.

1. kingston SSDnow is poop
2. im an asus fanboy
3. im an enthoo fanboy
4. corsair RM series PSU are overpriced for what they are, they are chep quality with fully modular interface.
this EVGA has 100% japanese caps unlike the RM that has chiniese and taiwanese caps
5. i downgraded to a locked i5 (because you dont need more) and a better mobo so you can upgrade later on to an i7 and have a killer mobo already

Honestly, I think you'll have a hard time getting those 2nd hand. Also, there are some bad points:

  1. 16gbs of RAM? Wah-?! That'a stupid! 8gbs is already plenty.
  2. Shjt SSD. Change it. Now. Anything works, but not a v300.
  3. RM Series PSUs are bad, once you consider their price and what other companies offer. And that wattage is overkill.
  4. Just.... get a 290 or a gtx 970. From the comments 1 and 3, you should have plenty of money to afford one.

Agreed. Something like an MX100 would be a better option.

1. Thanks for the tip, i dont keep up with ssd's, they interest me little. All i know is they give faster boot times.

2. Fanboyism is a dying art. But your motherboard choice makes sense.

3. I prefer the look of the other case, it will be permanently situated in my living room, i have a mrs to answer to -.-

4. Never really kept up with psu's either, they give my machine power and if they look decent and have decent reviews thats good enough for me, thanks for the heads up though ill change my build to yours.

5.  For that price i could get a 4670k instead of the 4460, wouldnt that be a better choice?

1. I just put it there incase i ever change my mind and want to put windows on it.

2. Changed :P

3. Yeah im gunna go with the one @The jolly roger mentioned.

4. Im tryna buy second hand cos £800 is kinda out of my price limit at the moment, im not too fussed about lifespan because they will be replaced within a year or two.

welp, i would get the 4460 and then later on get the i7 4790k

and BTW the fractal design define r5 is out, its easier to build in and quieter

I'd never change from the 4460 to a 4790k. Ever. It's just a waste. Maybe into a 5790k Broadwell (as those are compatible with h97 mobos after a bios update), but even then it would be a bit of a stretch.

Also, the R5 is better... but at what cost...........

Thats a bit of a waste, if i was going to get an i7 4790k id rather go for something cheaper than the 4460 and manage until i could afford the i7
