Quick question on hot swap

I'm turning old external drive into hot swap drive. It's 500gb SATA II Hitashi Deskstar. Will it work straight after I take it from external casing and put it into pc? And will it work fine if I decide to put it back to casing? Casing will be off powerline and usb when I insert drive into it or take it out.
