NEED HELP PC KEEPS SHUTTING DOWN

Go to solution Solved by DeViLzzz,

Test the psu with a multimeter.  Also update the BIOS for your motherboard. Those are my recommendations.

... and I did notice a comment on the net that said, "Northbridge without decent cooling on it can cause crashes."  It was referring to this mobo.

For quite a while my pc has been shutting itself down when I'm playing games. My initial thought was that my power supply was not strong enough to power my pc, but I read somewhere that I might have 2 audio drivers which could cause my pc to crash, which I did. I fixed it and for a while it worked fine.

Then a few weeks later, it started shutting down again and I'm not confident that it's a power issue. Help?

You can back up your files and try a fresh Windows install and fresh drivers.

I'll try that tonight

Same here, have had it for a week. It was most likely the GPU. Keep a steady OC and make sure your drivers are all updated. Keep the temps low too

My GPU isn't OC'ed, all speeds on default.

Post errors, maybe there might me a lot of dust in your build.

My pc has actually had very similar problems. Sometimes when and not OC. Mine restarts and it sucks! Test if it's your PSU by downloading a game or something that will keep your PC on for 3-5 hours. If it doesn't turn on, it must be functioning correctly. Run benchmarks to see if your GPU is working right and can keep up

Update: Ran a stress test for my CPU, pc shut itself down. I then replaced my GPU with an old one that I know works fine (with no power needed). Ran the test again, test completed with no issue. So now I guess that leaves with the problem being my PSU or my GPU.

Know any way to test for my GPU or PSU? My pc can handle long hours fine. The problem is that if I do anything to stress it, it just shuts itself down.

if you got a spare PC

dump the GPU or PSU there and see how it goes

seems more like a PSU issue to me

when the GPU is stressed it draws more power than the PSU could handle causing the shutting down

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Unfortunately I don't. I'm thinking of using my friend's system, but he lives too far away and I don't have a car to get around.

This may actually be the case. My dad surprised me with a CM Hyper 212 Evo because the stock cooler was really loud. So far, no shut downs.

Will update after stress test is done.

Update: Test is done. Guess the problem was the motherboard overheating. Thanks!
