Finnicky Wireless

Go to solution Solved by raine,

UPDATE: I cracked open the case, took the wireless card out and blew out the PCI slot and the antenna ports then reseated it. So far the issue is gone but I will keep an eye on it and keep an eye out for a decent AC card to replace this one with when it dies.

Well I'm not really sure what is going on. My desktop is about 2 weeks old and my wireless is being finnicky. I am using a D-Link DWA-552 XtremeN PCI card and a Cisco Linksys E3000 Wireless Router. Up until a few days ago it was running fine ... Now unless I boot it a couple times a day, the following day when I boot it the wireless card will not see any wireless networks until I reboot the system. It's not a huge issue, but I'm concerned that this issue could be an early sign that the wireless card is nearing the end of its life. I haven't messed around with overclocking on this system yet, and don't really have the time to spend messing with the wireless card and was hoping for some insight.

:C

get a LAN cable if you can. srsly cat6 in the house.

if rebooting the system fixes the card, instead of rebooting just try disabling and re-enabling it in windows.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

I honestly would do that, but considering that the router is on the other side of a different floor in the house I'd need at least a 150' cable.

have you tried poping the Wifi card into another PC?

this will rule out any issues with your current PC

I don't have another working PC with a spot to test the card on.

The only other desktop PCs I have are an old Compaq running that ran Windows 95 till it was upgraded to Windows 98 and a crappy Dell running Windows 2000.

The Windows 98 only has only 1 PCI slot that it has its ethnernet card in (not to mention there is no driver for my card prior to Windows XP) and the other PC has a dead harddrive.

I considered swapping the IDE harddrive in the 98 computer over to the 2000 PC until I saw it was only 2 GB. =(
