windows 8.1 update glitch?

Go to solution Solved by Nick B,

I've had the same problem about a week back, I could solve it temporary by going to a restore point.

After installing windows update again, the problem reoccured.

Finally, I did a clean windows install, and it works fine now.

So if you don't mind the effort, I'd advise you to try a clean windows install.

So, my computer auto updated to windows 8.1, and go figure, it fucked up because you know, 8.1 sucks! It currently is not showing the desktop, but I still see the mouse, and it shows stuff in control alt delete, with task manager also showing up. What sort of stuff could have happened?

Seems like Window's explorer isn't running...

Try launching it.

Its in C:\Windows\explorer.exe

I posted about this issue in another thread. Let me get that for you... I went through the same thing.

EDIT:

I had an issue today where the explorer.exe wouldn't start and all I would have is a black screen with functioning mouse. I checked around online, thanks to Task Manager I was able to launch apps, and found that the KB3035131 was the cause of my issue. Using TM again I was able to open Control Panel and access the Programs and Features window and uninstalled that update. Windows is working just fine without it... after reboot of course. Could see if that might be the issue.

this did not work, any other ideas? I would be fine if I needed to do a clean windows install

You can always use Task Manger to launch a CMD window and try a few things.

SFC /SCANNOW

also

DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RESTOREHEALTH

Let us know how it goes.
