Im planning on building a pc SOLELY for gaming, will be situated next to my tv and will most likely be running SteamOS.

However to keep the mrs happy ive got to keep it as cheap as possible (i mean CHEAP). I wanna be able to run most games at medium settings at like 40+ fps.

Can someone put together a pcpartpicker list that will suit my needs? (will most likely buy everything second hand to save cash)

Idea of budget (go over or under, im tryna get a feel for prices) - $450

Dear God.

The i3 destroys any AMD quad core.

How do I know?

I owned a phenom II 965 BE which is almost on par with the athlons and a i3 and the i3 was MUCH faster.

a quick google search will provide a solution, created by angry dual core owners.

Dude no.

That cpu has FOUR threads.

I played far cry 4 with an i3 just fine.

Thats wrong information you have there.

well it isnt out of the question that when someone reads "dual-core processor" they assume it'd be dual core.  without knowledge of hyperthreading you wouldn't second guess it :P
