59 vs 60 HZ

so, i know almost all of you know the difference between monitors that has 59 and 60 hz, but im not that sure, what ive always thought is that they are the same, but are there any real difference between buying a 59.94Hz vs buying a 60 HZ, or is it like when european monitors had 50 hz while the american ones had 60?

also, if they are the same, why does anyone care to put it on the box? (i mean to put 59.94Hz on the box)

They are not the same. 59Hz does not equal 60Hz

I think you're confusing eletrical current related Hz with fresh rate Hz. The Hz that monitor manufacturers market (on the box) are refresh rate Hz. 

These companies market the refresh rate because the higher the fresh rate, the higher the fps the monitor can handle and display thus the smoother the picture you get during gaming.

 

60Hz is fine for a lot of people. If you want butter smooth gameplay you'll want to go with a monitor that has a refresh rate of 120 or 144Hz.

 

Other people can probably explain all this in more technical terms.

Not sure why but I don't mess with 59Hz anymore because my games would not go full screen anymore. When I run 60Hz they went full screen. It's only 1fps difference.

It has to do with the monitor being 60Hz. Makes sense for it not to go full screen but I could be wrong. It's just what I noticed.

but why would you ever make monitors that are 59.94 HZ, are they cheaper to make or something, or maybe is 59.94 HZ is the real number and 60 HZ is the rounded number, we may never know

I recall it has something to do with HDMI and/or HDTVs displaying images; NVIDIA had a driver issue with this which caused a gigantic storm of complaints.

59Hz is a compatibility thing for TVs because TV standards are ancient and weird, just ignore it. And it's much less than a 1Hz difference, "59Hz" is just truncated in Windows. It's really 59.94Hz.
