I'm planning on water cooling and I'm looking for best value. I already know about dual aio solutions and that my plan A at the moment but if I bought a a h220x from swift tech, bought some extra tube and a water block for my strix 970. Would it be better performing than a dual aio but still cheaper than a custom loop ?

yes it would be cheaper, but you get what you pay for, which is the cheapest possible custom loop

if you really want to expand it, I suggest you save a bit more money and invest in a high quality loop

you can buy kits from EK or XSPC for about $200 which are much higher quality and will last a much longer time

they will also be quieter

So far for dual aio it's going to be around 260$ cnd including tax. The h220x route so far with the 220x, gpu block and tubing is around 406$ cnd including tax. That's without fittings for the gpu block and no extra rad

Depending how big the dual AIO is. Like if you were to stick 2 AIO with 240 mm radiators each, then the swiftech one would be outperformed because there aren't that many radiators however if you were to have 2 120mm each AIO it would perform more, or equal. So basically it's the same. Assuming you can put another radiator with the swiftech one, I would do swiftech for the less power draw for the pump (not a lot) and ability to add another radiator later down the road if you want to rather than having 2 AIO

(Edit) the dual AIO is cheaper so you should probably do that. If you were to have $400 I would custom loop it.

that's the thing though it's 300+ $$ and it doesn't even come with a gpu block. Plus I'm in canada so with the conversion it going to be over 400$ with tax just for the cpu basically plus the 120$ without tax for the gpu block plus I need extra fittings and stuff

572$ without shipping and the extra fittings or a backplate for the gpu block, if I were to go with an EK 360mm rad kit

there are WC kits for $200 here

http://www.ncix.com/category/water-cooling-kits-1d-1290.htm

and instead of buying an expensive ful cover GPU waterblock you can get one of these universal ones

I'm planning to do a 240 for the cpu and a 120 for the gpu. So with the 220x I would have had to add a rad on top of the price

I would need a 360 kit which is 350+ $$ usd. I'm in canada so it would be 400+ $$ plus tax and shipping plus a gpu block still. So same price as if we're to get it straight from EK not counting shipping. And frozen cpu is not functional

Nvm it's cnd but with tax its 416$ just for the cpu. Then I need a gpu block and backplate. unless I can use the stock asus backplate

edit; the gpu block for my card at ncix is 169$ plus tax

frozen CPU is fine...http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/308324-frozencpu-not-shutting-its-doors-mark-friga-owner-of-frozen-cpu/

and that was just an example of a universal GPU block, there are lots of others that you can buy from different places

If you are looking for the best value, then I suggest you just get a generic one from ebay.

It already comes with all the stuff you need (like cpu and gpu waterblock, tubing, pump, res, etc...). You just need a premix coolant as it is using Aluminum Rad + copper block.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Water-Cooling-Kit-Utra-Thick-45mm-240-Radiator-CPU-GPU-Block-Pump-Reservoir-/380873015849?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58adcd0229

Yeah, we're all just a bunch of idiots experiencing nothing more than the placebo effect.
