First Gaming PC Build

@Kryptos

1. get a 700 watt + power supply from a well known manufacturer, that is modular or fully-modular and is 80 plus certified.

2. get a cheap dvd rw drive. Like $15 doesn't really matter which brand.

3. Windows 7 is fine, Windows 8 is a little bit better in some ways and windows 10 should be a free upgrade from either of those operating systems in the very new future, so it doesn't really matter which one you get.

4. 2 monitors is very unspecific are you looking for 1080p, 1440p, 4K, gaming, ips, ultrawide? need more specifics.

Overall your parts look good. You might consider the Define R5 over the Define R4 as it is new and probably a little bit better.

1. With 700W you could easily power 2 970s. o.0 500W is totally adequate.

I agree with 2-3. ;)

4. If you want 2 decent monitors as in IPS, 1080p, this will bust your budget. I threw the Acer H236HL in there, that Linus unboxed a few years ago.

Also I went with a Z97 motherboard to match the Devil's Canyon i7 and slightly cheaper memory to match the motherboard color scheme.

I've been planning to build this new PC for over 1/2 a year, and decided to wait till after Christmas due to prices. Since I'm new I need assistance with making sure I got everything covered...My price range is $1500.00, and I'm from the U.S.

This is my current build:  http://pcpartpicker.com/p/kcQ4hM

I'm currently looking for the following:

  1. Power Supply
  2. Optical Drive - For general use like instillation nothing fancy.
  3. Operating System - I don't particularly like Windows 8....but if it's highly recommended I'll do it.
  4. 2 Monitors

Please let me know of any mistakes I need to change, as well as recommendations.

Thanks You!

A 600 PSU will be good

You can install Windows on a flash drive but you can get a dvd rw drive for around $20-$30

WIndows 7 will do just fine or you can get SteamOS for free which i wouldn't recommend

If you are planning to play 1080p a BenQ monitor would be good. http://www.amazon.com/BenQ-Gaming-Monitor-RL2455HM-24-Inch/dp/B007HSKSMI/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1428268577&sr=1-1&keywords=benq

Hey, firstable i want to ask a question: Do you want a very quiet pc? If that is what you're looking for i wouldn't recommend a AIO cooler because the pumps can get very noisy at idle. I would use a nice air cooler instead. I have a pretty similar pc: I have the same GPU and the define r5. I use a BeQuiet Dark Rock pro 3 because its a very quiet piece of hardware which can cool my i7 3820 pretty well. I'd recommend using a software like Fan Xpert or Speedfan to reduce the rpm in idle. For the Optical Drive, just grap a cheap one. There are no big differences. The Operating System doesn't matter that much either. With Windows 7 and 8 you'll get the Update to 10. The only advantage that may be important is that windows 8 supports direct x 11.2 which can give you slight performance improvement in some games, for example battlefield 4. I can't help that much with the monitor though :(

For the power supply, if you are searching something quiet buy a corsair rm650 or something like that with a nice efficiency and a fanless mode

Thanks for the quick replies :). I've made some changes, which are the following: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zG3PNG

  1. Added a Power Supply
  2. Added a DvD Drive

I'm going to get windows 7, I believe I already have an extra copy, but I'm unsure about the 2 monitors, and yes I plan for 1080p no to excessive lol. Also should I change the cooling method?

*Thanks will look over things and fix stuff*

The Define R5 is woth the money, i guess. The better Cable Management for example is very nice. As i have said, if you want lower temps, go for the water cooler but if you want a nice very quiet pc, you should go for an air cooler because at IDLE there are no pumps creative noises

I'm usually always doing things on my current PC, and when I'm not I get off for extended periods of time. So I will stay with water cooling, also I will change to the Define R5.

Thanks for everyone's help! I'll make another thread if anything comes up.

I would suggest getting a better power supply. The Corsair CX is pretty rubbish for the price.

This Antec is much better.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/antec-power-supply-hcg520m

Swap the SSD to the 850 Evo. The 840 Evo is the old model. Another alternative is the Crucial BX100 or MX100.

The MSI Gaming GTX 970 is slightly cheaper and is better than the Asus imo.
