Just built a new system and did a clean install of Windows 8, while stress testing with prime95 I keep getting random bsods around 10-15min in. Everything is stock and on optimal defaults in the bios so no overclocking or anything like that. I have narrowed down the problem to the memory which is a 8gb set of Corsair XMS3. I ran memtest86+ and HCI memtest on both sticks individually and both passed. I have tried all different configurations with the mobo slots but they all eventually bsod on me. The only reason I think the memory is defective is because I swapped it out with my G.Skill set that I have in my main rig and it ran prime95 all night and passed several Intel Burn Tests. Everything else seems stable. I took the Corsair memory and tried it in my main rig which I know is stable and another system I had lying around, then ran the same stress tests which also gave me a bsod after 10-30min. So it would seem that the Corsair XMS3 is the culprit but why are they passing the memtests? Before I request a RMA I was wondering if there is anything else I should try because I am out of ideas. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

 

One last thing I tried was manually setting the memory timings and voltage. Stil same results :(

If you'd like confirmation that it is RAM, upload the dump files (C:\windows\minidump) to here (in a zip archive) and I (or somebody else) will take a look. If it's unstable with the broken ram, just run prime95 with each ram stick for 2 hours and if none of them fail, do it for longer (just that you said 10-15 mins so it should be enough).

Thanks for the replies. I did run prime95 with each stick but they didn't last 15 min let alone 2 hours. The system would crash with a blue screen that said that the pc ran into a problem and the couple times I caught what it said to look for before automatically rebooting was Memory_Management. I was just wondering why would they pass both memory test and still fail when being stressed. My concern is doing a RMA and there is actually nothing wrong with the memory. I thought it could just be incompatible but it does the same thing when in 2 other systems My G.Skill runs fine in the new system when I swap it out. It ran prime95 overnight no problem. I have attached a few dmp files as requested. Please let me know if anything is found. Thanks!

I mentioned in the op that I tried that as well...

 

Another question I had was do I have to create 2 RMA tickets with Corsair to send in both sticks? They were packaged separately when I bought them and now since I don't know which one is causing the problem I have to send both in. I have tried both individually on 3 different systems and all have eventually crashed on stress tests but they pass the memtests every time.

you will have to contact them and find out,

 

when i sent mine back to them, i had to send back the pair despite one of them being ok,

 

Corsair are usually really good at dealing with RMA's so i would't worry too much about it.

Yep, it's your memory. However, it can be caused by having the memory clock set too high, so especially if you overclocked the ram (but not only if), turn it down a bit and see whether that fixes it. If so, it's probably a ram controller issue.

I was pretty sure already that the memory was causing the instability. I never overclocked the memory yet since I wanted to make sure I was stable at stock speeds and all the components were okay. So you recommend trying the tests again with lower clocks or voltage? They are 1333MHz 9-9-9-24 and 1.5v, what should I try?

If your memory is at that speed with those timings that's pretty standard.

If you've overclocked your CPU, turn it down a bit, but 1333MHz is pretty standard. I don't know how easy it is to change the frequency of your RAM, but try the next level down if there are options, or about 1200MHz. However, the chances are that at least once of your ram modules are dead.
