Hey guys long time listener first time caller.

So here's the deal i sold my GTX660 and went with an XFX Tahiti LE card which arrived today. Everything is fine including scaling to my dodgy TV resolution, however when im on the desktop or on things like chrome (i.e not gaming) the screen goes black as if you've unplugged something then comes back quickly with red/green being the only colours.

I've reinstalled the drivers and now im using Beta ones to help with font smoothing but the issue remains with whichever drivers i use and i've heard AMD/ATI cards have has issues in the past with them. Funnily enough i played an hour on FO3 and everything was brilliant.

Anyone got any ideas?

Well Buxty, do you have an extra GPU laying around to test with? If so, test it and if the problem goes away then it's your GPU.

If you don't have a second GPU, then at a shot in the dark, I'd RMA the card and get a new one. Usually anything with colors displaying like that would mean a GPU problem...

You could try downclocking your card and see if your card doesn't have a stable OC(if it came OC'ed out of the package, I've seen some people on these forums have a problem like this before).

Been googling for 30 minutes, can't find anyone else reporting this issue O_O, possibly a defective HMDI port on the card.
Just to make sure it isn't a driver issue though, try downloading an older driver & testing that out.
Also try using a DVI to HMDI converter & hook up your TV using that to see if it makes any difference.

A good idea is to contact XFX customer support immediately, if it's a known issue they can help you diagnose it, otherwise an RMA is in order.

I think it was the factory overclock on the card, i've lowered the voltage and the problem isn't occuring for as much and for as long. I've ticketed XFX already, so waiting on them. I literally just sold my 660 so i can't check now but its using a whole new set of drivers so im not too quick to jump straight to the card being at fault.

Time to see how little voltage a Tahiti LE can run with yay!

I use ccleaner as well but some better program known as pcfixer came out which was recommended by the tech-vets podcast guys and they have never failed me before.

Thanks for the advice, i've been playing with it and magically without me changing anything it now works with F@H and the issue of the odd coloration on the screen is happening less. The retailer has accepted an RMA for it, but i'm keeping it over the weekend so i don't have to be without my rig for days  B)
