So I had an old Laptop's HDD die recently. I have a 60GB SSD that I installed in it and I plan on turning it into a TS server.

What would be the best Linux Distro for me to use? This would  be my first time using Linux, so a beginner friendly one would be appreciated!

If you are serious about getting into Linux, I would stay away from Ubuntu. It really comes down to what you are looking for. If you want something rock solid and reliable, I would try Debian. If you want something a little less stable, but still reliable and also pretty cutting edge, I would try Fedora.

Zorin OS is the version for those all-life windows users that want to make the jump, or at least try something different. Very user friendly.

Lubuntu is a pretty lightweight, yet full featured distro. Very easy, also Windows-like.

Mint OS does go a bit more deep than these two regarding the similarity with other well known Linux distros instead of mimicking Windows, but it's still easy enough, and similar.

Keep in mind, that these three versions (unless you go for the debian alternatives), are all Ubuntu based, so each little problem or doubt you could have, doesn't need to be found on their respective forum/communities/guides, but on any Ubuntu help/information website/video. So you still get the same support as Ubuntu (sort of).

As you may have noticed, Ubuntu is the one with most support for users out there, so it's never a bad choice; don't let hipsters refer as it as a bad distro, or something 'for noobs' as they like to call it. However I still suggest you one of the three distros on the first paragraph, specially Zorin, It got my non-techy, windows noob, sister into Linux quite seamlessly, as it's kinda designed for the user to not use the terminal if he/she doesn't know/want to.

I will go with Ubuntu, just based on the fact that it is one of more popular linux distros.

Larger Popularity = Large User base = More help & documentation.

If this is specifically for a server - I'll probably go with Ubuntu Server or Debian.

I have a headless Intel Atom home server for NAS/Torrenting/Printing that is running Ubuntu Server. Personally, I went with Ubuntu since Debian did not play nice with my config.  I did the whole server configuration via SSH terminal, which is not as easy as working with a GUI, but is however a good learning experience.

Scouring the interwebs, one page at a time.
