Internet between two houses?

Go to solution Solved by ForsakenLive,

hi thanks for the reply.

So these aztechs are basically useless for the other house, but atleast i can use them!

As for running an ethernet cable, that would be a bit of work so unfortunately this is not an option for us..

so i'm guessing the best way to go about this is to just get them a basic internet, or maybe ask my ISP if they have a deal or a method to hook up two houses?

Most of the times, at least in my experience, the ISP will be pretty much against this, as their rules suggest that it's one connection per address.

Yup, those powerline connectors are pretty good and handy, but only work on that very same home power-network, also they can't go through most 'electrical boxes', switches, transformers, and what not.

Using an access point for increased wireless reach, to connect to a notebook/phone/PC with wifi adapter, would be easy enough to do if you can't wire the connection.

So my grandparents tenant recently moved, and they used his internet for their satellite dish.

We are neighbours so we had the idea to connect through my internet so they wouldnt have to pay for a new internet.

The tenant left behind two Aztech Homeplug Turbo 85mbps.  Its basically a thing that goes into ur wall with an ethernet slot.

I plugged one into my router, and one at their house, but there was no luck.  So to make sure they even worked, i plugged the second one at my house and connected it to my xbox via wired, and it worked perfectly.

What's weird is i can get wifi at their house with my laptop, phone, etc.

So my question is, what's the best way, if possible, to get my connection over there?

Would it be possible to setup two routers? Maybe another one of these things (if someone could tell me what these are called i would appreciate it)?

You should be able to configure everything from a single router, and getting an Ethernet cable, straight from it to the other PC (in the other house), or a switch.

Those adapters you have are PowerLine adapters, they will only work on the same electrical home infrastructure.

Your trying to use powerline between houses. That's not going to work. Powerline works by sending the ethernet signal over the power lines in a house.

You could get a wireless range extender and put it on there wall closest to your hoar.

just FYI if your isp finds out your doing this they are going to be mad.

@youngben

The best method would be to buy a wifi range extender and extend your wifi signal from your house to theirs by putting a range extender in their house.

That would be the most practical method.

To get the fastest internet, you can route an Ethernet cable to their house from yours.
