After having some pain-in-the-ass issues with Windows 10 and restoring twice to no avail and due to having roughly a fortnight to upgrade (buy) Windows 10, I resolved today that I was going to bite the bullet, take the plunge and migrate to Linux for my main gaming rig. I feel oddly set free, it's a very... enlightened feeling. Having a no-nonsense operating system that doesn't patronize me, one that treats me the way I want an operating system to treat me: instantly, stably, and without restraint. Honestly, it's very nice having your computer be honest with you for once, I don't understand why more people don't do it! (well, yeah, compatibilty...)

Linux has already conquered the mobile, embedded and server markets, it will soon conquer the desktop. It's only a matter of time, so I figured now was the right time for me to start learning it properly, and what better way to do that than to force myself to use it as a daily driver? That and being rather kindly thrown off the bandwagon by Microsoft in a little while, (thanks, guys!)

So from here on out, you will be seeing me on this forum as a "new" user, in a way. I'm no longer tied into Microsoft's walled garden, and I encourage anyone else out there who is interested to take the plunge with me, it'll be fun!

Just thought I'd share this with you guys. If this goes in Off Topic, then... well, sorry. figured anything about operating systems went here, so... Here's to the next while with you guys here!

Long Live Linux!

I was looking at Kali for my laptop for a bit, but there's only one thing I would use it for, and perhaps smashing WEP-secured networks should not be my... priority...

Mooching off of other people's wifi isn't... crime... technically... kind of... >w>

And anyway, if the person's using WEP, then it's probable that they know nothing about computers and so couldn't find you out anyway.

Nah I like both Windows and Linux, try Linux someday! I've tried both and they have their own pros and cons.

I would if i knew where to get it xD and how to dual boot

Just get it from its website e.g. Ubuntu from http://www.ubuntu.com/ , Mint from http://www.linuxmint.com/ , etc. and to dual boot basically partition your HDD/SSD and boot the Linux USB installer and install it to the new partition you made earlier.

most of known distro able to boot from USB if you just want to try it

I'm using Elementary OS for quick hardware check

unfortunately it failed a lot with some Network cards, and adapter (ie: No driver)

graphic glitch on older hardware (AMD X1200, ATI 9000)

I know right? You have to know bunch of commands, but for me it's kinda worth the time. It's for penetrating you know.... (Hacking) Kinda fun, but not for crime. I do this sometimes to my friends and they have no idea what's going on, I just hold my laugh.  :P
