Darksouls 2 is more forgiving for new players since it actually has a tutorial but in my opinion DS1 is better. Yes bonfires are like checkpoints but it is openworld so you go back to them and they serve many other functions. And no it is not fun for a casual player, you will rage and quickly come to hate the game because you keep dieing.

If you like challenging games that reward you for learning and mastering it, you will like Dark Souls games. Do not mistake the games for being unfair or hard for the sake of being hard. These games require careful approach and you have to learn how the enemies work and how to use all your character's abilities. The game will punish you if you get too reckless or think you can just run'n'gun/tank'n'spank your way through it.

Dark Souls also offers variety of customization options. All weapons are useful, but with different move sets. For new players a spear might be easier to use since you can attack from behind your shield withou having to lower it. Magic is also considered making the game easier as it gives range and extra heals, depending on how you develop your character. Just find a build that works for you.

Being casual does not matter. Just do not expect to blow through the game in no time and prepare to die a lot. You might get a few rage moments, but try to learn what you did wrong and you will thriumph. You can also summon other players if an area feels too hard, or maybe farm some more levels and/or upgrade your gear to make things a bit easier.

Dark Souls 2 is probably the easier of the two to get into, especially on PC. DS2 runs much and looks much better on PC. It also has many quality of life fixes over the first one. Story-wise it does not matter as they are not direct sequels. There are some vague references here and there but nothing too important. They just released a re-mastered version of the second game (Scholar of the First Sin) with new enemy placements and updated graphics plus a bit of new extra content. Now would be the time to jump in as the multi-player scene is at its peak.

Dark Souls is a game you play and realize you are pathetic no matter how awesome you are at video games. It is a game that is so challenging that rage quitting seems too light of a reaction when you fall off a cliff, get killed by a zombie-thing or killed by an epic boss. It is a game worthy of every single positive word ever said about it (with the complaints about PC optimization being shtako being accurate too) and worth far more praise. I played it and I died eight times in the first three minutes and then four more times when I faced the first boss, which was a goddamn challenge if I ever did face one and still wanted to keep going even though I was getting no where with my pathetic noob skills.

Is it worth it? Dark Souls 1 is probably one of the very few games I purchased that was definitely worth the money I got it for. Is it for the casual player? Probably not. However I'm a casual gamer but even I managed to get into it, and care little about how difficult it was. Because that's one of the aspects of the game that makes it so damn great.

Well, that and the very original plot.

So if you plan to get any of them, get DS1 first and then DS2. The way I hear it DS2 is a little less extreme than the first game but that's not how you wanna get into the series, I would hope.

DS1 is a brilliant game, you just have to stick through the first 4-5 hours. After that it is way less frustrating and more rewarding. I would even say DS1 is in the Top 10 games i have played, and i have played a lot :D

DS2 is okay, it's not bad but the level design/world design comes no where near DS1 and most bossfights are the same. Rather easy game tbh, but worth playing.

Yes, the game is very fair in terms of difficulty, so the satisfactory factor is really high. Most of the time you have yourself to blame for dying.

It's not particularly hard to get into, it's more like bothersome. The tutorial bit is pretty much the only part where game falls short, I recommend looking up basics for the game if there's stuff you have no idea what to do with.

I'm telling the truth! I AM a 12 year old girl!
