Xeon E3 or Core i5

Go to solution Solved by dadasmithywinkle,

I won't be overclocking ever

(too dangerous for me)

The 1231v3 is actually comparable to the i7-4770. The Xeon is the way to go.

I am trying to decide to get a Xeon E3 1231 V3 or Core i5 4690K

I am going to try and make games and make youtube videos and also I want the best performance to go with my GTX 960 SSC 4GB

I will be playing games like the witcher 3, the division, and arkham knight etc.

Hope you can point me in the right direction :D

My PC Specs: CPU: Core i5 4590 @ stock speeds, GPU: RX 480 8GB, RAM: 16GB DDR3 @1600mhz

Case: Zalman ZM-T4,Motherboard: GigaByte GA-H81M-S2H LGA 1150, HDD/SSD: 2TB Seagate Expansion drive, 1TB Samsung Portable HDD, 160gb Intel SSD, PSU: 550w corsair cxm

The Xeon and i5 will both offer comparable gaming performance, the i5 having a slight lead with overclocking capabilities. The Xeon will be oodles better at rendering.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

That's interesting. I might pick one up at some point then. I need a server for IRC, teamspeak and Perforce source control so if xeons are cheaper, great.

Well I am getting it in a bundle

And separately they are $20 more than an i5

Worth it though
