I am planning on buying 8 gigabytes of RAM for a budget build I am making, but I am not sure whether the power supply can handle it. The model I am planning on buying is the Corsair Vengeance LP, 1.5V, 1600MHz, 2 x 4GB dual channel ddr3 kit. After some research, I found an article stating these things consume ~200W at max load, but that seems a little excessive to me. Can anyone here tell me with certainty how much power that kit might actually consume? Were the numbers at the article accurate?

Thank you for your input!

RAM eat 200Watts

i think you saw the total power draw

they only use 1.5 volts or less

no way it can draw that high wattage

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Nah it won't use 200W. Nowhere near that at all.

A CPU runs on 0.9V-1.xV. This says nothing about power usage.

I think RAM power consumptions are pretty much neglectable alongside harddrives and fans. Depending on the system as a whole you are building, we could make some suggestions about the total wattage needed.

200 watts, aha that is the funniest thing i have heard all day when i build rigs and a design them i dont even factor in wattage from the RAM, wouldn't worry dude!
