I don't want to be able to edit or render because I don't make videos I just want to be able to play games with my friends, but I want a good pc that can last me a while.

with that amount of money, you can last a couple of year definitely.

Well, any decent computer is able to edit and render photos/videos, sure the less powerful ones are not as good for it as higher end ones, but they can still be used for it.

The Xeon has hyperthreading (like the i7), in case you ever need the extra threads.  It runs games exactly like i7 or i5, but it much harder to overclock... which you might not want to do.  To be honest, you really do not need to overclock for gaming.  These Haswells are great.
