Choosing a graphics card

Go to solution Solved by typographie,

What would be the differences betweeen the different brand versions?

It mostly comes down to the cooler and their warranty. I don't know what bad things you've heard about EVGA, but they're usually the ones everyone is fawning over. EVGA, Gigabyte, Asus, MSI are all companies I'd trust. And the Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 is the one everyone seems to recommend.

I'm not sure about water blocks, though. Air cooling is absolutely fine for GTX 970's, but if you want to go with water you'll need someone with more experience than me.

I'm building a pc, but I can't decide on a video card. It'll be used for a workstation load (music and video production) and for casual gaming. I'd like the best one that I can get for around/under $425. I know that this is purely objective but I'd like some suggestions on what I need it for. I don't care between amd and Nvidia or any other brand. I will be water cooling it in the future so I will need one that has a water block. What are some things to consider when choosing a card? I'm looking for lots of bang for my buck (under $400 if possible). The last card I was looking at was the EVGA GeForce GTX 970.

EVGA's poor reputation is an artifact of past issues which should not weigh on your current decision making.

To see a review of a specific card simply Googe the specific model. Take note of temperatures of the GPU and VRMs as well as sound output.

1. Overclock until the magic smoke comes out. 2. Modify until broken. 3. Fix and repeat.

Hey guys, I'm looking for a new 1080p monitor and a good midrange graphics card to go along with it, what do you recomend, GTX660 or R9 270X? Or maybe I should add a little cash and buy GTX760? Which one of these is best bang for the buck for 1080p gaming?

I went with Msi, the card is perfect EXCEPT for one thing ; no backplate. This is something you might want to think about if your doing water cooling. The asus strix has coil whine issues so be careful of that. I'd say maybe ebga of gigabyte, or even msi if you don't care about backplate.
