Hey guys.

Need some help/opinions on which route I should take.

I bought two 780 ti's just under a year ago, I was busy looking on a local forum the other day at the price of my GPU'S (second hand) and they have half'd their price (if not slightly lower depending on the manufacturer).

I have a few questions as I am not sure what to. The main reason for me wanting to upgrade is to get as much money back on my cards, I just don't want to wait another year to see my cards have half'd their price again.

1. Should I or should I not consider upgrading?

2. Would investing in some thing like the Titan X be a good idea? Would it hold its value better than my 2 current cards?

3. I've been reading here and there about pascal, is it worth my while just holding out until the release?

Please excuse me if my logic is flawed. Is pc hardware just bad at holding its value across the board?

Opinions/experiences would be appreciated.

Cheers

1. Should I or should I not consider upgrading? That is up to you honestly, do you feel they do the job?

2. Would investing in some thing like the Titan X be a good idea? Would it hold its value better than my 2 current cards? Hold it's value? Nope, not really.
3. I've been reading here and there about pascal, is it worth my while just holding out until the release? No clue, sorry.

Please excuse me if my logic is flawed. Is pc hardware just bad at holding its value across the board? Pree much.

GPUs and almost all computer parts are bad at keeping value, I would suggest keeping them for another year then selling them and getting 980s if you are worried about performance.  But keep in mind that my gtx 250 still holds up against modern games... Not well... but it can...

no the titan wouldn't hold its value better. as soon as something faster than it comes out and the fact it is used, the value drops.

if you have sli 780 ti you should be more than fine. what resolution are you playing games at. are you getting the frame rate you need?

don't fall into the trap of constantly buying the latest hardware. you don't need to upgrade a pc every generation of product when you buy the top tier. that is the point of buying the top tier.

Yeah, PC parts hold their value worse than a wrecked car.

So, go off of performance. If you are not satisfied with your 780ti SLI setup, yiou will need to upgrade to.... 980 SLI, A Titan X, 295x2, that sort of thing before you will ge much better performance.

And if you do want to sell them.... let me know. I want another 780ti ;)

The depreciation of high end pc parts is worse than new cars. You might use them until they devalue so much they don't get any cheaper or use them until they either don't work, or can't run the games you want.

Basically you are losing money anyway - Buying new only loses more money. Which I guess is okay but only if the money you spend is worth it to you. Hundreds of dollars isn't worth it to me to have MSAA X8.

The way I look at it: If you're questioning an upgrade, you probably don't need to. When it comes to PC parts they almost never hold their value for long so the best way (imo) to not lose all your money is to use your current setup until it no longer fulfills your use-case (eg: not enough fps in games). This is why I haven't upgraded my cpu as I have with my gpu, as I haven't needed any more power than I already have.

just enjoy your cards. if you keep that mentality of trying to upgrade and get as much money back, it's pointless.

personally

i will suggest holding off any upgrades since you got the best GPU based on the Kepler chip

the GTX980 is only slightly better than the 780Ti at higher res because of the bigger VRAM but both VRAM performs pretty much similar even with the downgrade to 256bit from 384bit.

i will wait for the next GTX1000 series to come out before thinking of a GPU upgrade

Thanks for the help guys - Helped me a lot with my final decision.

At this point in time performance from my 780 ti's isn't a problem at all, my thoughts were more based off the fact that I could save my self money, but clearly after your guys opinions and other guys opinions on other forums that's not the case.

I will be waiting until pascal cards are released then re-evaluate whether I should still upgrade or not.

Thanks again guys!

Wrong. Maxwell as an architecture is simply much better than Kepler at resolutions higher than 1080p. Take the Titan Black to the 980 instead of the 780Ti and performance results are the same. vRAM size has nothing to do with it. The memory on the Kepler cards is actually faster, inclusive of Maxwell's memory bandwidth optimizations (which can't be read by software like GPU-Z and must be assumed, but IS present in benchmarks), by quite a decent chunk of speed (~80GB/s).

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

its weird that 780 ti cards are still expensive new ya lol. but that's just the oddities of the industry

It's a shame GPUs like 780ti are still £500+ when a card that stomps it if R9 290 is SLI'd and could cost £100 more than a 780ti with major performance boosts for that price range.
