Hello all, i have been getting random shutdowns while playing BF3, the pc shuts down and i get a BSOD and i can see hardware error about 15-20 minutes into gaming and reboots. Upon checking the event viewer it states that its a Kernal Power issue. I have searched the web and can not find anything solid on what the issue could be. I know its not a heat issue, people online say that it might be a PSU issue. I will list my specs below. Please help if this is something that you have been able to resolve.

Asus Maximus VI Formula ROG

Intel I7 4770K 3.5GHZ

16GB Corsair Vengence DDR ram

Corsair H100i cpu cooler

Corsair RM650

Samsung Pro 850 250 SSD

1TB Western Digital Black sata Drive

This error means that the computer shut down, but there's no cause that was registered by windows. This could be anything from insufficient power supply which I cannot confirm due to a lack of a graphics card posted, or overheating, which I also doubt due to the watercooling.

Is the Corsair RM650 enough power to carry all components?

Yes. More than enough. You should have a good amount of headroom with that PSU.

*Edit. I'm going to add a caveat here. How old is your RM650? If its been in continuous use for more than a year then it starts experiencing degraded capacitor performance which diminishes overall efficiency.

If you've got a spare power supply, put it in and try it. Even at peak performance you're almost dead on the 80-88% threshold of output.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Its been about a year....should i start an RMA? So do you agree that the Kernal Power error is PSU related?

If you have tested the system with the EVGA 750W and it had no issues then yes, I'd say RMA the RM650. Corsair is pretty damn quick with their service so you shouldn't have an issue.
