Mac Mini thunderbolt problems

Hi, I just bought a loaded mac mini for Logic today.   I bought the mini displayport to dvi-d adapter from apple.   Apple says the accessory works with thunderbolt and since there is no mini displayport, i used it.   But then I did not get any signal from the monitor.   I plugged the mac into a tv and its working fine.   I plugged the monitor into a pc using the dvi and it worked fine.   What should I do?

maybe an odd answer, but did you plug it the right way in? I mean upside down, i did this before on a mac mini and i was surprised the monitor did not work, until my dad pointed out that the connector was upside down(the minidp one)
