I'm in a debate with @BentheMuffin over data unit conversions, so here goes:

1.) How many megabytes in a gibibyte

2.) How many megabytes in a gigabyte

Muffin says 1024 megabytes in a gigabyte

Spoiler

If you've ever watched a computer calculate file sizes you'll notice something once it gets to 1024 bytes, it'll go from 1023 bytes to 1024 bites and display that as 1 kilobyte. So, in the computer way of calculating I would definitely say that 1024MB (megabytes) equals 1GB (gigabyte). I know others won't agree and try and say that 1024 megabytes equals 1.024GB (gigabytes), but I strongly disagree, because I've watched my computer plenty of times calculate file sizes and it will see 1024 megabytes as 1GB (gigabyte). If you guys don't believe me go and watch your computer calculate file sizes and you'll see that I am correct.

Windows calculates data differently though from what Linus has said.

Yeah I know, but which do you think is more correct, Linus or the computer?

Maybe you guys should read this:

The unit was established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in 1998,[2] has been accepted for use by all major standards organizations, and is part of the International System of Quantities.[3] The kibibyte was designed to replace the kilobyte in some computer science contexts, where kilobyte used to mean 1024 bytes. The interpretation of the kilobyte to denote 1024 bytes, conflicting with the SI definition of the prefix kilo (1000), is still common, mostly in informal computer science contexts.

Giga=1000 mega. Gibi=1024 mebi. In practice the difference is tiny so the terms are often mixed up.

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.
