Cherry MX Reds with 0.4mm o-rings will be the quietest. That's how I had/have my K90 with MX Reds.

Blues and Greens are the only Cherry MX switches that make noise when you actuate them, the rest of them, including Browns, don't make any noise.  Any noise you hear from Browns, Clears, Reds, Blacks, etc are from you bottoming out the key, not the switch itself.

I found that with the reds on my K70 the worst of the noise is from the key returning to the top of its travel.

O rings help the bottoming out but that isn't actually the worst of the noise. Bit infuriating really.

If you want them to be extremely silent, you should possibly get reds, clears, blacks, or yeah, maybe even browns.

Next, you want to get o-rings, and then, you want to get some keycaps that don't cover the whole switch, something like this: http://i.imgur.com/GbNW0VL.jpg (credits to /u/Wshaf)

You won't hear anything, but beware, most of these keycaps cost around $125.

  • MSI R9 280 3G TF @ 1350MHz Core, 1700MHz memory

12GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz & 1.50V, 9,9,9,24 (2x2GB kit aData + 1x8GB Kingston HyperX Fury)

Blacks or clears, but I would rather guess blacks. o-rings are only $18 on Amazon, or little bit more for the 0.4mm, but I wouldn't recommend them since they greatly reduce the keycap travel longitude, and it'd take pretty long to get used to.

See attachment.

O-Rings provide a significant decrease in the noise from a mechanical keyboard. Few mechanical keyboards already have them installed.

These are the dimensions recommended for 95% of the mechanical keyboards on the market.

Outside Diameter: 8mm /0.32"

Inside diameter: 5mm /0.19"

Thickness: 1.5mm/0.06"

EPDM rubber which has much better resistance to cracking and tearing than nitrile or silicon rubber but most sellers just use silicone. I bought silicone.

If you are willing to wait on shipping, you can get the O-rings for cheap here from ebay, banggood, or aliexpress. Search for "150pcs White Keycap Rubber O-Ring Switch Dampeners For Cherry MX" and confirm the 1.5mm thickness and you're good. You can pick them up in 8 days from Hong Kong for $2 + $2 eparcel upgrade.
