Yes, if you open Disk Management and format the drive it will be useable in Windows.  Don't panic if it doesn't show up immediately.

so i have an ssd and i just bougt an hdd and i was wondering if i could have files stored on my hdd accessable on my desktop like my current ssd

As the guys pointed out, you can have more than one storage drive (regardless if it's a HDD, SSD, mSATA, M.2, flash card, Thumb Drive, etc.) on your computer at the same time. You simply must plug in the drive, open disk management, initialize it, format it and assign it a latter. :) You are free to install programs and games on more than one drive and use them freely. What drive did you get?

Well I actually pulled a 500Gb HDD out of my old laptop and I just wiped it, also how do you change the letter assigned to the drive.

 

Go to Disk Management and right click on the specific drive. You will see a number of options and should see it there :)
