Using Markdown in the Forums

I've used a variety of forms with Markdown, and I've found it to be enjoyable and easy to use. Why don't the LinusTechTips forums use it? And if it's possible, should we?

Markdown is the formatting style that Reddit and Wikipedia use (there's others, but those are some of the biggest ones off the top of my head).

Its probably something within Ipboard, where it can't be enabled, but we use BBCode. When editing theres buttons at the top, or just type [_b_] (without the _'s) for bold or u for underline etc.

Welp then. We shouldent even think of integrating them, Wikipedia and Reddit look REALLY ugly imo.

For the very simple answer of BBCode is widely known. I'm a avid programmer and even I've never heard of markdown.

Not optimal for forum software such as IPB if you ask me.

Keep in mind, by formatting standard it just means the syntax that is used to make stuff bold, underlined, etc

Personally, Ive already learned the format of this forum so I'm fine with how it stand as of right now. Maybe something to consider in the future... What are it's benefits?

Markdown is a little more standardized, which is the main advantage. It's also used to other websites like StackOverflow.

I use reddit a ton because what else would I do at work, but I feel that I only vote if I strongly feel with something, but I know my coworkers vote on everything so it's personal preference but I wouldn't mind if they had it.

The forum software only supports BBCode, and having bbcode and markdown at the same time would be a bit pointless (and cause some issues).

I am actually very surprised so many people have not heard of markdown. So many websites use it like reddit, twitch, github, wikipedia. But I agree, not really the best use in a forum.
