CPU usage 30 - 50% while idle.

Go to solution Solved by Dannykins,

Have you tried Superantispyware  http://www.superantispyware.com/you can download it here its free, it will remove most adware, and any viruses detected just make sure to un check any false positives after scanning if you have any.

Also you could check resource monitor although you will probably find the same results, as process explorer, some anti viruses also seem to use high CPU maybe reinstall your anti virus.

I noticed that my CPU was using 50%+ while doing nothing but browsing the web. Its goes down to about 40% when idle. This has never happened to me before, its always been around 10-15% when idle. I googled it and a lot of people had the same problem as me, but none of their solutions helped me. I used Process Explorer to find out what process was causing the high CPU usage, it was svchost.exe. I made a list of all the services linked to svchost.exe below. I have a Intel i5-4590 @ 3.30 ghz. Does anyone have any idea of how I can fix this? I already tried Malware Bytes and it didn't detect anything harmful.

I will try that, but like I said I have used Malware Bytes and it hasn't detected anything bad. So I don't think this program's results would be different, thanks for the recommendation anyways.

Malwarebytes is good i agree, but this will clean most adware cookies for you, and it did detect a keygen on my old laptop that malwarebytes did not detect.

if you get no success in scanning, try un installing your antivirus and restarting your computer, if that does not do anything maybe see if it still happens in safe mode. Svchost.exe is what a lot of hackers use to disguise their viruses, and if you're infected could be a possibility.

However i do not think any virus would use that much cpu unless it is a RAT then maybe, but unlikely.

I've already tried that, unfortunately it didn't work, my CPU usage was still very high and the process was still running.

What programs do you run daily and at start up? Also, you said you checked the processes tab but can you say what exact process is using more then 100,000k for memory and more than 10% for CPU?

Do you do OS maintenance? If not grab CCleaner and run it at default configuration.

I used SUPERAntiSpyware and restarted my computer, my CPU usage is at about 11% now, thank you! :)

The only process that uses more than 100,000k at idle was svchost. I already checked msconfig a long time ago to see what programs run at start up. I stopped all of them from running at start up but it didn't solve the problem.

You're welcome i would also sugest doing a CCleaner scan too, just make sure to un check registry files, because you do not want any of them deleted, just out of curiosity how much did Superantispyware find? and were they mostly ad ware cookies?
