I was watching a movie on VLC media player with IRC open and nothing else, I heard all my fans spin up and my windows 7 "Aero" theme disabled itself, I heard the coilwhine of my graphics cards (they do this at 100% power) so I opened monitoring software and they were drawing max power + going up in temps for no reason...

I turned off my computer because it was continuing to draw max power to the cards + the temps were going up faster and faster and they weren't stopping, no idea what could of caused this as it was so random..

I read stuff about drivers causing issues with graphics cards, could this be that?

One way to know is rollback your drivers and give it a try.

Unless you run Vsync and your GPU isn't maxed out a lot.

bump, anyone know what could be causing this? it hasn't happened since but I don't want to leave for an hour or something and have crap overheat or something, i've read to many posts lately about people's graphics cards dying on them due to drivers or random other crap.
