GPU usage dips, and is the current PPD good?

I've finally been able to get stuck into folding today and whilst trying to squeeze an extra 2K PPD out of my rig I noticed that both GPU had a sudden dip in usage before going back to 100%? Is this normal when folding?


Also, are the PPD (98k PPD overall) normal for these:

• GTX 650 TI OC 2GB @ 1175MHz (running on PCIe 2.0 x2), scoring 73,988 PPD with core 18, WU 10477 -max temp 43^oC
• GTX 970 G1 Gaming @ 1499MHz (running on PCIe 3.0 x16), scoring 21, 296 with core 17, WU 9411 -max temp 55^oC
• i5 4440, scoring 3,494 PPD with core a4, WU 6394 -max temp 51^oC

Pretty sure the drops happen when it's making checkpoints,

so occasional, but regular drops is normal. As for the ppd,

that is impossible to tell without the specific wu. it will vary,

and very much so  depending on what you are currently

working on.

 

with a 970 you should see somewhere in the neighborhood of

240k ish on a core 17. and 40-70k on a core 15 depending on

the wu. 

 

Oh, nvm you listed the wu's. Well yes, your ppd is out of whack.

But have you added a passkey, and do you qualify for QRB? 

check if the estimated points are above the base credit.

the ETA on your 970 looked fairly abnormal in another thread,

but since your gpu  usage is 100%ish i guess all you can do

for now is to wait for a different wu. 

I'll be waiting, but at the moment the 970 is getting flogged by my 650ti, and the 970 isn't even at a great disadvantage either.

yupp, it doesn't look quite right, usually i would say go back to stock.

But you had the same issues on stock clock? you could try pulling

out the 650ti, re-installing drivers and run the 970 by itself to see if

anything changes. 

 

What is the TPF on your 970? i'm currently working on 9411 aswell.

I've tried everything to get the 970 folding properly, and it just won't go any faster. And the TPF as of a few seconds ago was: 23 mins 42 secs

Well, you've had a bunch of problems with the 970 apparently..

pull out the 650ti, and stress test the 970 on its own. 

 

Unigine heaven/valley, 3DMark, furmark. Try something and

see what happens. A faulty card obviously won't do any better

in folding than any other application you can name.

 

If it's related to folding, we can troubleshoot it. If the problem

lies elsewhere, this back and forth is pointless and there is

nothing we can do. Atleast not in relation to folding.

Also, another 2 lock ups, in which I was able to use my 650ti while the 970 recovered, so yeah, the 970 is pretty much screwed.

There are too many variables in folding, so i wouldn't use that. 

Too much that can go wrong.

 

i would pull out the 650ti, re-install drivers to be safe. Then use

some proper stress testing software to see what happens. Then

you can simply reply to  them, politely saying that the card is totally

screwed, and explain what issues you ran into.

dips is usually pretty normal in F@H it always checks the estimated ppd and time if it still correct. and also for WU stability to.

 

But don't OC the card if the WU skips 0.1% you will be screwed  then you will have to do those steps wat i told you
