Ad Block?

So i just got time to watch the live stream from last night and Linus brought up the useage of Adblock. I just wondered what other people decided to do to preserve privacy but still allowing their favorite companies to get ad money. And to cut down on some intrusive annoying ads (stupid pop ups that have trick close buttons, annoying sound effects, etc)

 

Currently i use DoNotTrack and Ghostery, as well as using Adblock (with a lot of whitelisted sites). Tried using NoScript, but that was even more of a pain to customize than anything else. Anyone know of anything else out there that might work better than fiddling with whitelists?

I vote that adblock should be illegal. We are not paying for the videos we watch and a 30second advert is nothing compared to 10minutes in TV. People then get pissed at intrusive adverts when most websites that have intrusive adverts are ones that have torrents for illegal uses. Like if you agree. If you dont agree then state why. Im yet to see a decent reason as to why we should use adblock.

I get intrusive ads on all sorts of sites, news sites tend to be the worst for popover stuff that i can think of from the top of my head. And i would honestly be ok with doing away with adblock entirely if i didnt have to deal with all the bs pop ups and auto-playing max volume videos. I just want to be able to go to a website and actually see the content that i requested, and for some sites that can be a real pain in the butt to deal with.

 

Another thing (not entirely related to adblock) i would love to see done away with are websites that force you to like their facebok or force you to sign in with something to see a simple article. I can see sign ins if you plan on commenting, but if i just want to read an article i think its entirely un-nessessary.

 

And actually from personal experiance other than really sketchy rapidshare-clones most of the torrent sites seem cleaner to me than every day sites i go to in terms of annoying ads.

I think making it illegal may be a little bit too extreme.

Too extreme, the program prevents people from getting money for their hard work, if it only banned intrusive ads that add a layer over what your doing but videos such as youtube would stay then that would be better however I think ads should be there as people should get paid for their work.

It's designed to be user configurable, so they can allow people to earn a living.

I think that certain options should be banned so that people have to watch some adverts as it may be great for altering settings but most of the people that get it are blocking everything and every youtuber loses a lot of money because of it.

You know what would be really nice (if someone from adblock just happened to be watching this) is if they had an option to actually ONLY block stuff like that. Pop-over/behind ads, auto playing ads, click stealing ads and the like.

 

A one button check box that would allow us to allow people to get their money without having to deal with annoying bs. And who knows maybe if enough people start doing that content creators will stop trying to pull that crap on their users.

also, how could you police getting rid of obtrusive ads though!? I've unblocked sites I feel should have the money btw :P But I really like adblock for annoying ads so.... yeah :)

Lets change the terms, you are doing great in life just brought a Porsche, then your pay check comes though the door and you get 75% of your wage with a note saying that as you have money already then you dont need more. People deserve to get the money for their work(apart from footballers adblock the living shit out of them fools).

Look when an entire PAGE is just filled with a ton of ads... It annoys me, I don't want to be influenced on what products I buy just because I've seen so many ads I've seen about them, I want the product I am buying to be good and what I want! not what the adverts are telling me to buy with brainwashing!

What about websites like PC gamer? I would gladly unblock them if they toned down on the amount of ads they had, but since they make it so "in your face" then it's their own fault that I block ads on their site.

This is exactly what irritates me. im going to your site and id gladly let you put as many side banners and even in article banners as you want, but god damnit dont put a giant ad over the whole screen with a tiny hidden close button and loud music and video.

 

All you are making me do is never ever go to your site again, you arent helping yourself at all.

But there's no reason for the government to enforce the Super Tax. It's just greedy: so much for prospering.

In the UK its used quite well with free health care and that sort of thing. The problem with the Uk and the USA and many other countries is that way too much money goes to the military. Without the military the debts would be waaaaay lower and taxs would be lower.

We are pulling out in 2014 though, yet the Super Tax is still imposed.
