So I've been messing with my cd version of gta 4 which I bought a few years ago.

My problem is that I cannot change any graphical options in the game. I have the R9 280 which has 3gb vram and that causes the problem since gpus with more than 2gb have problems with compatibility or something.

Anyways, I have already tried this:

-add gta 4 to the steam library and add -nomemrestrict -norestrictions to target location

-create a .txt file with -availablevidmem 3.0 (I tried all the way to 6.0), also added -nomemrestrict -norestrictions later because that didn't resolve my problem

-make a shortcut of launchgta4.exe and add -nomemrestrict -norestrictions to target location

-re-install games for windows live and microsoft visual C++ 2005

those were all the possible solutions I could find on the internut but I'm stuck now.

I should also say that I always get an error when trying to launch the game in normal mode. I get seculauncher: failed to start application 2000 but didn't bother with it too much since when I ran it in admin mode it opened. Problem now is that it doesn't even open anymore. I get the little "reading cd" icon and everything but nothing more. Yes, I could reset all the changes I've made but what would that bring? I still couldn't run it above 800x600p so yeah...

Any other things I could try?

Thanks

What happens when you click on the graphics menu?

The game doesn't even recognize my gpu as it is, it says I only have about 200something mb available and its automatically set to the minimal setting which adds up to about 240mb of vram usage. When I click anything it automatically resets. Thats intended that people who don't have powerful gpus cannot over exceed their limit. Don't know why they implemented that, its dumb and they could think about the future where gpus will have more than 2gb of vram

Try this in commandline.txt

-width=1920-height=1080-availablevidmem 0.662-percentvidmem 100-novblank-noprecache

Put it in the GTA IV game directory (where you find GTAIV.exe)

It works for me. That's for my previous card with 3GB of VRAM (HD 7950) which is just an older 280. Currently using a 290X but didn't bother to change values.

Only this or should I also add the -norestrictions etc.?
